Julie Beckman
Director, Educator, and Adapter

Julie Beckman is happy to a part of the dynamic and talented Sandbox Artists Collective. She recently directed The Bells by Theresa Rebeck for Strawberry Theatre Workshop and Secret in the Wings by Mary Zimmerman at University of Washington. Her 2009 production of The Elephant Man with Strawberry Theatre Workshop received five Seattle Gregory Award nominations including Outstanding Director and was also named Best Production of 2009 by Seattle Gay News. Julie also directed Fellow Passengers for Strawberry Theatre Workshop, Angels Fall for Our American Theatre Co, El Cartel and Snatch and Run for Young Playwrights Festival at ACT (2010 and 2011). She has also directed and adapted for Book-It Repertory Theatre (Hard Times, Jane Eyre and Waxwings), and Stone Soup Theatre (Five x Tenn and Trilogy of Terror). Her productions with educational institutions include Curse of the Starving Class, Woyzeck, The Woolgatherer, The Island, Voices for Change, The Interview, Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, and The Odyssey. Her work has also been seen at Center Theatre, Porcupine Productions, and the Director's Co-op in Chicago, at Ensemble Theatre, ArtReach Theatre, and Playhouse in the Park in Cincinnati, in Washington D.C. at Studio Theatre and Source Theatre and in Atlanta at Actors' Express. She holds an MFA in directing from Northwestern University and a BA from Georgetown University.
